Our Story

How it all started...

On May 20, 1962, members from Crestwood Baptist Church in Frankfort, KY met in the Little Elkhorn Elementary School later to be nicknamed "the Bird House" due to the number of birds nesting and flying in the facility. Dr. Roy Boatwright would serve as the first interim pastor of what was known as The Crestwood Mission. Months later, on August 12, 1962, The Crestwood Mission was officially constituted as a church under the name of East Frankfort Baptist Church at its mother congregation.

East Frankfort Baptist Church planted with 87 charter members. By late October 1962, the young congregation moved from the school house to a home previously owned by the Leonard family. Memorialized as "The Old Leonard House," it served as the first church building owned by East Frankfort. It would be used by the church until it was demolished in October 1981. Despite its destruction, the church still meets on the same property as the Old Leonard House.

By its fifth anniversary, the church was ready to build a more appropriate sanctuary and education building. On Easter Sunday, March 26, 1967, ground was broken for the new building. Services were first held in the new sanctuary on November 12, 1967. Both the new building and the Leonard House would host countless services and ministries including a child care ministry.

Expanding the vision...

As the church continued to grow, EFBC was in need to expand its facilities. In April of 1987, EFBC broke ground on its present sanctuary. Construction was completed in November of the same year.

The church continued to grow outpacing its facilities. In May 2006, the church broke ground adding more educational space. The church is now well suited for continued growth and engaging the Frankfort community.

Where we are headed...

Frankfort is a growing community critical to the state of Kentucky. As the state capitol, its influence is beyond its relatively small size. With a population of just over 50,000,  the majority of residents remain loss and without the gospel. East Frankfort is committed to engaging its community with the hope of Jesus Christ.
